The result was I broke the retaining clips off the top chip and the top chip will not clip down. So when I tried to free the original memory, I pulled up on the chips without first pushing the retaining clips outward north and south as the instructions say to. I'd seen the instructions on replacing the ram, but did not refresh my mind before doing the deed. I just replaced 2x1 gig with 2x4 gig on my 2011 mini. Having done this myself I probably have voided my warranty so who knows what out of pocket expense I might be facing to fix this just because I was too cheap to have it done. I didn’t force anything but now I am dead in the water. I have no idea what could have happened or what I might have done. No problem I will just reinstall the original memory and return the purchased memory except for one thing.now the top module of the original memory will not seat properly. I opened it back up and the reason was that the top module was not seated properly and I could not get it to seat properly, it was loose. When I booted the Mac Mini back up it continued to beep three times indicating according to the manual that it could not recognize the memory.

The 2 X 2GB went in easily or so I thought.

Instead of just paying the price at the Apple Store and having them install the 2 x 2GB of RAM I went to Fry’s and picked up some Kingston RAM specified for the Mac Mini. I know changing out this memory is not that big a deal for most people but it is something I did not want to mess with.but I did. My system had been working perfectly but I have read over and over how I should have more memory that the 2GB RAM that came with my Mac Mini.
